An intranet or extranet is a communication platform used by
an organization to exchange messages, files, announcements, and other
organizational materials.
WordPress is great for creating an internal network of any
organization, as It is easy to maintain, open source. Thousands of all kinds of
plugins have been developed for it, which are needed to add a wide variety of
functions that you may need.
The intranet runs on a private corporate network. Typically,
an office IT system is connected via cable or wireless network adapters. One
computer on such a network can be used as a web server and host a WordPress website.

An extranet, on the other hand, is an intranet platform
available for a larger network or the public Internet. Or in simple terms, this
is a public website, but only for authorized users.
Such a site can be especially useful and convenient for

To create a corporate network, you need an account on
WordPress hosting and a domain name. After that, you can install WordPress and
then configure it to create a corporate network.
To do this, you will need several WordPress plugins. I'll
show you the basic setup, which will be the basis for a future WordPress
intranet that meets the goals of your organization.
Setting Up Buddypress as a Site for a Wordpress Intranet
BuddyPress is a subsidiary of WordPress. With it, you can
transform a WordPress site into a social network. Here are some intranet
features supported by BuddyPress:
You can invite users to register on the corporate network
Users have the ability to create advanced profiles.
There is an activity feed notifying about the latest
updates, such as on Twitter or Facebook
You can create user groups in order to sort them by
department or department.
Users can add each other as friends
Users can send private messages to each other
Additional features can be added using third-party plugins.

Protect Your Corporate Network with an All-In-One Plugin
If you use a local server for the internal network, you can
protect it by restricting access to the internal IP addresses in your .htaccess
file.
However, if you use Extranet, then users can access the
intranet from different networks and IP addresses.
Therefore, you need to make the extranet private and
accessible only for registered users so that only authorized users can access
your corporate network.
To do this, install and activate the All-in-One Intranet
plugin.
After activation, go to the Settings » All - in -
OneIntranet page .
Configure Intranet Security Plugin
Be sure to check the box next to the option "Force site
to been tirely private". This will make all pages of your site secretive.
The only thing that this plugin cannot make private is the
files in the “download” directory. But do not worry, a little later I will tell
you how to hide them from prying eyes.
Then specify the URL to which you want to redirect users at
login. It can be any page on your intranet.
And finally, you can automatically throw inactive users out
of the system by specifying the minutes of acceptable downtime in the
corresponding box.
